4th of July

For the Fourth of July we thought we'd go to the beach, but after waking up that morning to rain we decided to sleep in a little longer and forgo the beach.  An hour later when we woke up the sky was clear and it was a beautiful day.  It would have been a perfect beach day!

Instead we decided that it would be nice to go to the 9/11 memorial since Marc hadn't gotten a chance to see it.  It was a really good experience, and I think it was definitely a worth while thing to do on the Fourth.
Hailey and Avery next to the "Survivor Tree."  This tree was actually salvaged after 9/11 and nursed back to health.  It's  been replanted in the memorial area.  We thought it was really cool.
 The memorial is beautiful.
I love the varying degrees of enthusiasm about this picture being taken!
The girls enjoyed feeding pigeons in the park.  My sister always refers to pigeons as flying rats, and because of that they totally gross me out, but these girls think they are the greatest things ever!
This is the classic Avery "Cheese" face lately.
After the memorial we took a  little stroll over to the east river, on our way we passed the New York Stock Exchange, so we decided to snap a picture or two.
Then we did possibly the least patriotic thing you can do on the 4th...we went to Ikea.  The nearest Ikea is in Brooklyn.  Ikea has a ferry that takes you across the river, but no joke we were in line for about an hour and 1/2 each way just to get on the ferry.  It was a terrible mistake!  We got what we needed, but I have vowed that I will never take that ferry again!

Anyway, that was our 4th of July 2012!
